The Varilux Physio is a breakthrough in wavefront technology. Wavefront design allows for more precise and accurate visual acuity within all areas of the lens. This allows for wider distance, intermediate, and reading areas. The Physio is a front side digitally surfaced lens. It allows for lower fitting heights in smaller frames without compacting the design too narrow for comfortable optics as other designs may offer. This means that your distance area at the top of the lens will be sharp and clear from one side of the lens to the other. The intermediate (computer) zone and the reading area are also widened for more natural use.
Traditional Progressive Physio Design
Polycarbonate has become the standard in lens materials. Polycarbonate lenses are thinner and lighter than plastic lenses but are highly impact resistant making this material excellent for children, sports wear, and safety eye needs. The only drawback to the material is it does create a high level of chromatic abberation. Low in cost, this makes for a great choice of lenses for spare pairs, reading prescriptions, or just a pair of lenses needed for work. Lenses come with front side scratch protection on all purchases. Photochromatic Lenses and how they work
Lenses that change when you go outdoors! This type of lens is by far one of the most popular features requested by customers. The lens is clear indoors and turns dark outdoors. For some people this is a great option over having separate pairs of indoor glasses and separate sunglasses. Today's technology is vastly improved over photochromatics of even 3 to 4 years ago.
Photochromic lenses have millions of molecules of substances such as silver chloride or silver halide embedded in them. The molecules are transparent to visible light in the absence of UV light, which is normal for artificial lighting. But when exposed to UV rays, as in direct sunlight, the molecules undergo a chemical process that causes them to change shape. The new molecular structure absorbs portions of the visible light, causing the lenses to darken. The number of molecules that change shape varies with the intensity of the UV rays.
When you go indoors and out of the UV light, a different chemical reaction takes place. The absence of the UV radiation causes the molecules to "snap back" to their original shape, resulting in the loss of their light absorbing properties. In both directions, the entire process happens very rapidly.
