Standard progressive lenses offer bifocal lenses without the visible line of traditional bifocals. The lens offers a distance area in the top of the lens for far away viewing, an intermediate area in the middle of the lens for viewing at arms length, and a reading area at the bottom of the lens for close up viewing. Although considered a "bifocal" and not a "trifocal" with it's three areas, the intermediate area is due to the lenses "progression" from distance to near. This is our material of choice and one we recommend to most customers because of it's overall value as a material. Trivex is the lens material of choice for those who want an impact resistant material that can be made lighter and thinner than plastic but who have had trouble adapting to polycarbonate materials. Another great benefit to this material is it's resistance to cracking that can happen to other materials under stress or exposure to strong chemicals and solvents. This makes it the best choice for rugged usage. Because of it's high impact resistance, it is outstanding for kids and sportswear.

Photochromatic Lenses and how they work

Lenses that change when you go outdoors! This type of lens is by far one of the most popular features requested by customers. The lens is clear indoors and turns dark outdoors. For some people this is a great option over having separate pairs of indoor glasses and separate sunglasses. Today's technology is vastly improved over photochromatics of even 3 to 4 years ago.

Photochromic lenses have millions of molecules of substances such as silver chloride or silver halide embedded in them. The molecules are transparent to visible light in the absence of UV light, which is normal for artificial lighting. But when exposed to UV rays, as in direct sunlight, the molecules undergo a chemical process that causes them to change shape. The new molecular structure absorbs portions of the visible light, causing the lenses to darken. The number of molecules that change shape varies with the intensity of the UV rays.

When you go indoors and out of the UV light, a different chemical reaction takes place. The absence of the UV radiation causes the molecules to "snap back" to their original shape, resulting in the loss of their light absorbing properties. In both directions, the entire process happens very rapidly.

These treatments also greatly improve night time driving and help reduce eye fatigue with prolonged computer use. Once you've had lenses with a GOOD anti reflective, you'll never want another pair of glasses without it.
